The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has proposed a budget of 873.78 billion naira for the 2027 general elections. The Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, presented the proposal on Thursday to the Senate and House of Representatives Joint Committee on Electoral Matters at the National Assembly.
Professor Amupitan said preparations for the 2027 polls had begun in line with legal requirements that election funding be approved at least 360 days before the vote. He said early appropriation would ensure proper planning and smooth conduct of the nationwide exercise.
The commission allocated 375.75 billion naira for election operations, 92.31 billion for administrative costs, 209.21 billion for technology and 154.90 billion for capital expenditure. An additional 41.61 billion naira is earmarked for miscellaneous expenses, bringing the total to 873.78 billion.

He said the capital component is higher than in previous budgets because previously omitted items have now been consolidated into the 2027 proposal.
