The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says about 100 United States military trainers and equipment have arrived in Nigeria to support counterterrorism operations. This is said to be part of bilateral security cooperation.
Samaila Uba, defence director of information, said the American trainers will work with Nigerian forces on intelligence, tactical planning and operational capacity. The collaboration is intended to strengthen efforts against insurgent groups operating in parts of the country.
The spokesman said that the foreign personnel would serve strictly in an advisory and training capacity, and stressed that they are not combat troops.
