U.S. forces have struck two Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island near the Strait of Hormuz. Sunday’s strike is the first military action against Iranian positions in over a month and comes a week after CENTCOM said it had cleared sea mines from the waterway’s main shipping lanes.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have acknowledged the strike, reporting casualties among fighters and civilians, though Tehran has not released an official toll. The Guards say they will swiftly retaliate. The Strait of Hormuz carries roughly 20% of the world’s oil and has been at the centre of months-long U.S.-Iran tensions.
With no conclusive end to peace negotiations to end the war in sight, the Trump administration has shifted focus to economic sanctions against Iran as well as countries or entities that seek to do business with Iran.
