The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed January 16, 2027, as the new date for the presidential and national assembly elections. Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will now be held on February 6, 2027.
The new timetable was announced by Mohammed Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, in a statement issued on Thursday.
INEC had earlier scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for February 20, 2027, and the governorship and state assembly polls for March 6, 2027.

The commission says the revision follows the repeal of the Electoral Act 2022 and the enactment of the Electoral Act 2026, which made an adjustment of the election calendar necessary.
