EFCC Witness Says Lawyer Arrested With Two Million Dollars Linked to Emefiele

An investigator with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has told the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja that a lawyer linked to former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele was arrested with more than two million dollars in cash. The witness, David Jaiyeoba, gave the testimony while appearing as the twelfth prosecution witness in Emefiele’s ongoing corruption trial.

Jaiyeoba told the court that the lawyer, Collins Omeife, confirmed during interrogation that the money belonged to Emefiele. He said the lawyer also admitted that he received funds from Emefiele through the former governor’s personal assistant.

The witness explained that the money was used to acquire and renovate several properties linked to the former CBN governor. He listed some of the properties as houses and land located in Lekki and Ikoyi in Lagos State, as well as an industrial complex under construction in Delta State.
