The House of Representatives Committee on Finance has directed the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to recover about N18.9 billion owed by foreign airlines operating in the country. The committee issued the directive during an oversight session in Abuja, giving FAAN two weeks to recover the outstanding debt.
Lawmakers said the debt represents unpaid charges owed to the airport authority by several international carriers using Nigerian airports. Members of the committee stressed that the funds must be recovered to support government revenue and improve the management of aviation infrastructure.
During the session, officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria were asked to provide details of the airlines involved and the steps being taken to recover the money. Chairman of the Committee, Hon. James Abiodun Faleke said strict enforcement of financial obligations is necessary to ensure accountability in the aviation sector.

The lawmakers also warned that failure to recover the funds within the specified timeframe could attract further legislative action. They emphasised that all operators using Nigeria’s aviation facilities must comply with financial regulations and settle outstanding obligations.
