The Benin Traditional Council has condemned a visit by TikToker Habeeb “Peller” Adelaja to the Benin Palace, describing it as unauthorised. The visit took place on March 6 during his nationwide tour, where he was received by some palace officials.
The council says the visit breached palace protocol and disrespected the sacred status of the institution. It maintains that the palace is a spiritual and cultural centre with strict traditions and not a place for casual visits or online content creation.
Authorities have taken action against individuals linked to the incident, including a palace staff member who has been detained by the Nigerian Police Force and charged in court. A queen of the palace is also facing disciplinary proceedings that could lead to her removal under traditional laws.

The council has summoned Peller to appear before a committee of chiefs but says he has not responded. It is demanding an apology and warning that legal action may follow if he fails to comply, while reaffirming its commitment to protecting the traditions of the Benin Kingdom.
