The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, says a counterfeit batch of the cancer drug Mabthera 500 milligrams per 50 millilitres is circulating in Nigeria.
The agency says the falsified product, identified as batch number N2110A09, was detected in Kaduna and Gombe states following complaints from healthcare providers and confirmation by Roche Nigeria.
NAFDAC says investigations found discrepancies in the packaging, including incorrect language, invalid batch numbers and faulty tamper seals, while the fake product was reportedly sold at significantly lower prices between 160,000 and 275,000 naira.
