UN Urges US to Conclude Probe into Iran School Strike

The United Nations Human Rights Council has called on the United States to conclude its investigation into a deadly strike on a primary school in Iran that killed more than 170 people, most of them children. The appeal was made on Friday during an emergency session in Geneva.

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, urged Washington to publish the findings of its probe into the February 28 attack on the Shajareh Tayyebeh Girls’ School in Minab, describing the need for accountability as urgent.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, told the council the strike was deliberate, while UN officials said preliminary findings suggest the use of outdated intelligence may have contributed to the incident. The United States and Israel have not publicly responded to the latest calls.

The session also heard testimony from a grieving mother who lost her children in the attack, as several countries condemned the killings. UN officials say more than 600 schools have been damaged in the conflict, with at least 230 children and teachers reported killed.
