Iran Seizes Oil Tanker In Gulf Of Oman

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the IRGC, says it has seized an oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman during what it described as a special operation. Iranian state media reported that the Barbados-flagged vessel, Ocean Koi, was accused of attempting to disrupt Iran’s oil exports and national interests.

According to Iranian news agencies, naval forces boarded and redirected the tanker to Iran’s southern coast. State television also released footage showing armed personnel boarding the vessel. Maritime tracking data identified the ship as registered in Barbados.

Iranian authorities said the country would continue to defend its territorial waters and warned that it would not tolerate what it called violations or aggression. The incident comes amid heightened tensions linked to the ongoing US-Israel conflict involving Iran.

Iran has also announced new regulations for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Under the proposed system, vessels would be required to seek clearance from Iranian authorities and provide details of their cargo, origin and destination before entering the strategic waterway.
