President Bola Tinubu has signed the 2026 appropriation bill of 68.32 trillion naira into law, following its passage by the National Assembly on March 31 after an upward review request.
The president had initially presented a 58.47 trillion naira budget in December 2025, but later sought an increase of 9.81 trillion naira, bringing the total to 68.32 trillion. The budget includes 4.79 trillion naira for statutory transfers, 15.8 trillion for debt servicing, 15.4 trillion for recurrent expenditure, and 32.2 trillion for capital projects.
In a statement issued on Friday by presidential adviser Bayo Onanuga, the government said the budget prioritises economic stability, infrastructure, national security and inclusive growth, with capital expenditure accounting for about half of total spending.
