What should have been a routine Nigeria Women’s Football League fixture in Ado Ekiti instead became a test of discipline in Nigerian women’s football, following a post-match altercation that has now attracted swift sanctions from the league authorities.
The incident occurred after Ekiti Queens secured a 2-0 victory over Pacesetter Queens in their Matchday 15 Premiership encounter at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium on Wednesday, 15 April. Although Ekiti Queens earned all three points on the pitch, attention shifted quickly after the final whistle.
According to official reports, Ekiti Queens player Teslimot Balogun and Pacesetter Queens player Busari Suliyat were involved in a confrontation that escalated into conduct described by the Nigeria Women’s Football League as violent and unsporting. Match officials confirmed that the altercation broke out immediately after the game, disrupting the orderly conclusion of proceedings.

Following a review of the referee’s report, the match commissioner’s findings and available video evidence, the Nigeria Women Football League imposed a two-match suspension on both players with immediate effect from Matchday 16. The league’s Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, reaffirmed that acts of violence will not be tolerated as the NWFL moves to protect the integrity of the competition and ensure discipline across all fixtures.
