At least six people have been killed, and several others hospitalised, following coordinated attacks on two communities in Plateau State in central Nigeria. The incidents occurred overnight in the Shonun community in Riyom Local Government Area and in Hurum in Gashish District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
The Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, Tengong Rwang, said that four people were killed in Hurum, with five others wounded. In Shonun, two people were confirmed dead, and three more were taken to the hospital. Rwang said the attackers arrived on foot, armed with sophisticated weapons, and that local vigilantes were unable to repel them due to the assailants’ superior firepower.
Rwang said residents of Shonun had previously alerted security agencies to unusual movements of unknown persons entering the community, but that no visible action was taken in response. He said repeated attacks over the years had already displaced many residents, with several abandoning their homes and relocating to safer towns.

The Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, Alfred Alabo, said he had not yet received a formal briefing on the incidents at the time of contact, but assured that an update would be issued after consulting Divisional Police Officers in the affected areas.
