The Federal Road Safety Corps says twelve people have died and fourteen others have been injured in a road accident along the Benin–Auchi–Lokoja Road in Edo State. The crash happened on Wednesday at Egono, near Ewu.

The FRSC says the accident involved a truck carrying passengers and goods to Benin City. Eyewitnesses report that about thirty-seven people were on board when the vehicle, allegedly speeding, attempted to overtake and lost control before overturning.

The spokesperson for the Edo State Command of the FRSC, Patricia Onwochei, attributed the crash to wrongful overtaking. She confirmed that several passengers escaped unhurt.
