The Oyo State Police Command says it has foiled an attempted kidnapping along the Mamu–Ijebu-Ode Road at Onigambari. The incident occurred on April 18, 2026, at about 6:30 pm.
According to the Police, suspected hoodlums attacked vehicles conveying passengers returning from a social event in Ibadan, forcing occupants to flee into nearby bushes. Officers responded to a distress call and disrupted the operation, preventing what they described as a planned abduction.
Two people sustained gunshot injuries during the incident and are receiving treatment at hospitals in Ibadan. Other victims have also been treated and are recovering.

The police say efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects, while additional personnel have been deployed to the area to strengthen security and prevent a recurrence.
