The Lagos State Government has ordered the immediate evacuation of waste generated during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, as part of efforts to prevent flooding during the rainy season. The directive was announced on Sunday by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.
He said operational teams, including the Lagos Waste Management Authority, private operators and local councils, have been deployed across the state to clear refuse and unblock drainage channels and canals.
The government says the exercise is aimed at reducing flood risks by ensuring drains are cleared and public spaces kept free of waste as rainfall intensifies.
