LASG denies report of Sanwo-Olu’s resignation

The Lagos State Government has dismissed reports that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been ordered to resign on health grounds. The claim also alleged dissatisfaction among political leaders and a planned leadership transition.

In a statement on Monday, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, described the report as false and misleading. He said Governor Sanwo-Olu is in good health and continues to carry out his duties.

The statement added that the governor met earlier with his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, who formally informed him of his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election. Officials said the meeting was cordial and in line with standard political consultations.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, first elected in 2019, is expected to complete his second term on May 29, 2027. He has also endorsed his deputy as his preferred successor.
