Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, is set to swear in Murtala Garo as the new Deputy Governor of the state in a ceremony scheduled to hold on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. This was confirmed in an official notice issued on Monday by the Special Adviser on Information to the state governor, Ibrahim Adam, who announced the details of the ceremony. The event is expected to take place at the Coronation Hall of the Government House in Kano, with proceedings scheduled to commence at 11:00 am.
The government has called on political stakeholders and residents to attend the event, which marks a significant development in the state’s political leadership. The swearing-in comes after the position of deputy governor became vacant, though the official notice did not provide details on the circumstances leading to the vacancy.

Governor Yusuf defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), to the All Progressives Congress in January 2026; however, his deputy, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, chose to remain in the NNPP. He eventually resigned from his position as deputy governor, paving the way for Garo, whose appointment is expected to help stabilise the political landscape in the state and ensure continuity in the administration’s programs.
