Ebonyi Government Lifts Three-Month Curfew Imposed on Amasiri Community Following Deadly Clashes

The Ebonyi State Government has lifted the over three-month curfew imposed on the Amasiri community following violent boundary clashes and killings in the Okporojo area of Edda Local Government Area. Governor Francis Nwifuru announced the lifting on Monday after a State Security Council meeting held in the state capital of Abakaliki.

The dusk-to-dawn curfew was originally imposed back in February 2026 after deadly boundary disputes between Amasiri in Afikpo Local Government Area and Okporojo in Edda LGA left no fewer than four people beheaded during the crisis.

Speaking with journalists after the council meeting, Mrs Eneh Kolawale, the Director of the Department of State Services, confirmed that the lifting order is total and that schools and hospitals in the affected communities have also been reopened. Kolawale, however, noted that despite the lifting of the curfew, security personnel will remain operational in the area to ensure that peace is fully restored.

The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Justice Ben Odoh, explained that the state council decided to lift the curfew after the communities showed remorse for the violent clashes. Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Information, Ikeuwa Omebe, assured residents that the government would remain alive to its duty of protecting lives and property. Governor Nwifuru’s administration has urged community members to maintain the peace and avoid any further acts of violence.
