Seriake Dickson Shares INEC Letter, Urges Nigerians to Ignore ‘Propaganda’ Over NDC Registration

Senator Seriake Dickson, the National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has released a letter from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to counter claims that the party did not follow proper procedures for its registration. The move follows criticism from Umar Ardo, a leader of the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), who alleged that INEC deviated from its protocols when it registered the NDC despite the party not being among the eight pre-qualified associations cleared in October 2025.

Dickson shared the INEC correspondence dated March 2017 to prove that the party’s application process began years earlier and was legally sound. According to the letter signed by Mrs Augusta Ogakwu, who was then the Secretary to the Commission, INEC acknowledged receipt of the NDC’s application and stated that the proposed name complied with the requirements for registration under Section 222 of the Nigerian Constitution.

The commission further directed the party to proceed with other requirements in line with the approved guidelines for the registration of political parties. Dickson explained that while the party’s initial registration was approved by INEC, the process was later stalled and only revisited when the commission resumed party registrations in 2025.

Dickson described the ongoing controversy surrounding the NDC’s registration as distractions fueled by rumours, gossip, propaganda and blackmail, which he said often trail ambitious political projects in the country. He urged Nigerians to discountenance what he called propaganda about the NDC or any of its leaders and to remain focused on the bigger picture.
