Publish Candidates' Certificates, Obi Urges INEC

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to publish the academic certificates and credentials submitted by candidates seeking elective office to strengthen public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process.

In a statement on Tuesday, Obi said making candidates’ credentials publicly available would improve transparency and accountability. He said the proposal was prompted by questions in INEC’s nomination forms, including whether candidates had ever submitted forged certificates.

Obi also questioned the priorities of Nigeria’s political leadership, saying insecurity, poverty and hunger should take precedence over political activities. He said the country’s security and economic challenges require urgent and coordinated national action.

The former Anambra State governor urged political leaders to focus on competence, character and public service, saying Nigeria’s current challenges demand decisive leadership rather than partisan interests.
