Macron calls for investment-driven partnership with Africa

French President Emmanuel Macron has called for increased investment in Africa, saying the continent needs stronger economic partnerships rather than dependence on foreign aid. Macron made the remarks on Monday while co-hosting an economic summit in Nairobi, Kenya.

Speaking at the University of Nairobi, the French leader said Africa needs investment to strengthen its sovereignty and create economic opportunities. He added that European countries should move away from what he described as lecturing African nations and instead support long-term development through partnership.

Macron also defended Europe’s role in Africa, saying that former colonial powers such as the continent’s current challenges. He called on African leaders to improve governance and said Europe remained committed to free trade, multilateral cooperation and the rule of law.

The two-day summit is aimed at rebuilding France’s relationship with Africa following years of strained ties with several former French colonies. Macron said a new era of partnership was needed, focused on private investment, infrastructure and economic autonomy for both Africa and Europe.
