Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) are meeting in Evian-les-Bains, France, with discussions expected to focus on a United States-backed agreement with Iran and the ongoing war in Ukraine.
French President Emmanuel Macron, who is hosting the summit, said the priority is to secure a “solid, serious agreement” on Iran, with Tuesday’s working lunch expected to consider reopening the Strait of Hormuz and possible maritime security arrangements.
US President Donald Trump said the Strait of Hormuz would be “completely open” by Friday when a formal agreement is expected to be signed in Geneva, following a digitally signed preliminary deal reached on Monday.
The G7, which includes the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Canada, Japan and the European Union, will also hear discussions on Ukraine, where European leaders are expected to press for continued support and stronger pressure on Russia.
