Nigerian socialite Cubana Chief Priest has claimed he stepped down from the All Progressives Congress Imo house of representatives ticket race before the primary elections held, following consultations with party leaders over zoning arrangements. On Saturday, Cubana failed to clinch the APC’s candidacy for the Orsu, Orlu and Oru East federal constituency seat for the 2027 general elections, with the incumbent representative, Canice More Nwachukwu, winning the primary election for the party ticket.
In a lengthy post on his Instagram Stories, the socialite said he was not physically present at the polling venue for the primary poll and had pulled out of the race, returning to Lagos a few hours before voting commenced. He said the party had adopted a zoning position that did not favour his local government area for the time being, and that he respected the decision.
Cubana wrote that following his consultations and meeting with the leader of the party in the state and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, the governor presented the position of the party regarding zoning within the federal constituency and his resolve to ensure that Orlu local government area gets at least two terms before the position leaves for another local government area.

He quoted the governor as arguing that it was not the turn of his local government area to occupy the seat at this time, considering that his elder brother had previously served three terms in the house. The socialite stated that in respect for the party and its leadership, he chose not to proceed to the field and never did, adding that nobody will say they saw him anywhere around the primary venue.
