NYSC partners NIMC on corps members’ verification

The National Youth Service Corps says it is partnering with the National Identity Management Commission to simplify biometric verification and registration for prospective corps members across Nigeria.

The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier-General Olakunle Nafiu, disclosed this in Abuja ahead of the scheme’s fifty-third-anniversary celebration scheduled for twenty-second May. He said the collaboration is part of efforts to deepen digital reforms and improve service delivery.

Nafiu said the scheme plans to allow prospective corps members to complete registration from their homes through integration with NIMC’s biometric database. He added that registration, mobilisation, payments and record-keeping processes have become largely digitised.

The NYSC boss also said rising graduate numbers, budget constraints and inadequate orientation camp facilities remain major challenges. He noted that the Federal Government recently increased the annual mobilisation quota from four hundred thousand to four hundred and fifty thousand corps members nationwide.
