Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has signed an executive order regulating the registration and operations of vigilance groups and other organisations involved in security activities across the state.
Governor Makinde signed Executive Order Number Zero-Zero-One of Twenty-Twenty-Six during a press briefing in Ibadan on Thursday. He said the measure is aimed at strengthening security coordination, preventing abuse by unregulated groups and avoiding ethnic confrontation amid rising insecurity.
The governor also warned against ethnic profiling and the targeting of innocent residents under the guise of fighting crime. He assured residents that security agencies were intensifying efforts to rescue abducted teachers and students of Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele High School in Oriire Local Government Area.
