Mamelodi Sundowns win second African Champions League title

South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns have won their second African Champions League title after securing a 2–1 aggregate victory over Morocco’s AS FAR following a 1–1 draw in the second leg in Rabat.

Sundowns went into the return fixture with a 1–0 advantage and took control of the tie when Teboho Mokoena scored a first-half stoppage-time equaliser on the night, restoring their aggregate lead after AS FAR had levelled through Mohamed Hrimat’s penalty.

AS FAR were handed another penalty in the second half but Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams saved Hrimat’s effort to preserve the advantage for the South African side. The visitors held firm through eight minutes of added time to secure the title.

The victory marks Sundowns’ first continental crown since 2016 and earns the club a place at the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup, along with a reported prize of six million US dollars.
