A soldier has been killed and several residents abducted after gunmen attacked communities in Ogun State. The incident occurred at a private dredging site in Magbon Etido community, Mowe area, on Monday.
The attackers attempted to kidnap an expatriate at the site, who escaped, before moving into the nearby Karanla community, where residents were reportedly abducted. Another soldier was injured in the attack and is receiving treatment.
The Ogun State Police Command described the incident as an isolated criminal attack and not a bandit operation. It said police and military personnel have been deployed to the area, and investigations are ongoing.

Security agencies say preliminary findings do not link the incident to wider banditry activities. They added that the situation is under control and that security has been reinforced in the affected communities.
