The Federal Capital Territory Police Command says five abducted residents of Paze Community in Bwari Area Council have been rescued following a joint security operation that led to the death of two suspected bandits and the arrest of two others.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police for the FCT, Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, said the victims were kidnapped last Thursday when armed men attacked Paze Community in Byazhin Ward, abducting five residents, including a pastor, and killing local vigilante member Shuaibu Yerima.
Sanusi said a coordinated rescue mission was launched on Tuesday night by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Intelligence Response Team, the Kubwa Area Command, local hunters and vigilantes. He said the operation, which he personally led, resulted in a gun battle during which two suspects were killed and two others, identified as Icheh Mohammadu and Abubakar Usman, were arrested.
Police also recovered two AK-47 rifles with magazines. The rescued victims have been taken for medical examination before being reunited with their families, while security operatives continue to search for other suspects who escaped into nearby hills and bushes.
