Bandit attacks on communities in Danchadi District, Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto State, have left eight people dead, according to the District Head, Alhaji Lirwanu Mafaran Kuwarun Sarkin Musulmi. Several have been displaced.
The traditional ruler describes the situation as dire, saying many residents remain traumatised, with some women still searching for missing husbands.
This is a first for the community, according to the traditional leader, who says he suspects the bandits infiltrated from neighbouring Zamfara State through Tureta Local Government Area.
The attacks have forced residents of about 30 villages to flee, with more than 1,000 livestock reportedly rustled. The district head is appealing to federal and state authorities, along with security agencies, to deploy more personnel to help restore peace and allow displaced residents to return home.
