Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has threatened to halt all Middle East energy exports, declaring: “The export of oil and gas from the region will be either for everyone or for no one.”
The statement is a response to a reimposed naval blockade on Iranian ports early Wednesday by the U.S. military and intensified strikes that killed at least seven troops and wounded over 260 people, according to Iranian officials.
U.S. Central Command said it struck dozens of targets over seven hours, including an army barracks in southeastern Iran.
Missile alerts sounded in Bahrain and Kuwait, while Jordan said it shot down three incoming Iranian missiles. CENTCOM chief Brad Cooper said Iran fired dozens of missiles and drones at Gulf Arab states. At least 19 U.S. warships, including two aircraft carriers, remain in the Arabian Sea.
The blockade was first imposed in April, lifted in June under an interim deal, but talks have since stalled. Trump warned bridges and power plants could be targeted next unless negotiations resume, saying: “You better make a deal, or you’re not going to have anything left.”
