Abia State Governor Alex Otti has distanced himself from Imo Governor Hope Uzodimma’s claim that all five South-East governors resolved to support President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election.
Speaking at his Thursday media chat, Otti said Uzodimma “can’t speak for everybody,” noting the decision on 2027 ultimately rests with voters. He confirmed his own party, Labour Party, will field its own presidential candidate, whom he’ll support.
Uzodimma, who chairs the South-East Governors’ Forum, said earlier this week the five governors — spanning different parties — agreed to back Tinubu, citing federal projects including the South-East Development Commission and rail line rehabilitation.
Otti clarified he isn’t opposed to Tinubu seeking re-election, adding that democracy allows every qualified aspirant to contest, with the ballot box deciding the outcome.
