The Nigerian military says more than 30 Islamic State West Africa Province fighters have been killed in a series of air strikes in the Lake Chad region of Borno State. The operation followed intelligence reports of increased insurgent activity around the Kaniram Island area.
According to a counter-insurgency publication, surveillance identified multiple boats and movements consistent with ISWAP logistics operations along the waterways. Air assets then carried out precision strikes, destroying several boats and targeting fighters attempting to regroup.
Further strikes were conducted on separate groups of terrorists, with additional casualties reported, including nine fighters in a related operation in Sowolwolo. Survivors were seen fleeing the area, suggesting disruption to their command structure.
