The Defence Headquarters says joint operations carried out with the United States have killed 175 ISIS fighters in north-east Nigeria and destroyed several terrorist targets linked to ISWAP.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, said the recent airstrikes dealt what he described as a devastating blow to terrorist networks operating in the region. The United States Africa Command, AFRICOM, confirmed the casualty figure.
Military authorities said those killed include Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, identified as a senior Islamic State leader and director of global operations for the group. Other ISWAP figures named in the operation include Abd-al Wahhab, Abu Musa al-Mangawi, and Abu al-Muthanna al-Muhajir.

The operations followed renewed attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP on communities and military positions in northern Nigeria. AFRICOM said the strikes were conducted in coordination with Nigerian authorities and that no Nigerian or American personnel were harmed.
