Outgoing African Development Bank President, Mr Akinwumi Adesina, has been appointed to the Council of Advisors of the World Food Prize Foundation.
The announcement was made in New York by the Foundation’s President, Mashal Husain, who praised Adesina’s lifelong commitment to agricultural innovation and sustainable development across Africa.
Describing him as a transformative leader, the Foundation said his track record aligns with the vision of Nobel laureate Dr Norman Borlaug, founder of the prize.

The Council comprises global figures in government, science, and policy, including former heads of state and ministers, and is tasked with offering strategic guidance to advance the Foundation’s mission.
Reacting to the appointment, Mr Adesina said he was deeply honoured to serve in the new role.
His inclusion is seen as a recognition of his efforts to drive agricultural transformation and food security across the African continent.
