Army Chief Vows to Crush Threats to Nigeria’s Sovereignty

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Olufemi Oluyede, says the Nigerian Army has successfully blocked terrorists—described as “enemies of peace and agents of chaos”—from destabilising the country’s borders.

Addressing defence correspondents in Abuja ahead of the 2025 Nigerian Army Day Celebration, Gen Oluyede warned that the military would not tolerate attempts to undermine Nigeria’s democracy.

This year’s celebration is themed ‘Developing the Soldier First Concept: Imperative for Nigerian Army’s Transformation Drive.’

In a related development, the Army revealed that troops under Operation Hadin Kai killed at least 10 Boko Haram fighters in a fierce encounter around the Lake Chad Basin.

Major-General Gold Chibuisi, representing the Army Chief, insisted no actor—armed or otherwise—would be allowed to defile the sanctity of the Nigerian state.
