The Nigerian Army has urged residents in the South-East to disregard a fake video circulating online, which falsely claims that government forces plan to attack the region.
In a statement on Tuesday, Lt. Col. Olabisi Ayeni of the 82 Division described the footage as “digitally manipulated” and “a deliberate effort to incite ethnic tension.”
The Army said it would not usually respond to baseless propaganda but felt compelled to act due to the growing use of artificial intelligence to distort facts and spread fear.

Residents were urged to verify information through credible sources and avoid sharing unconfirmed material.
The Army also reaffirmed its commitment to peace and security in the region, stressing that all attempts to destabilise the South-East would be futile.
Security agencies are reportedly tracking the origin of the content as part of ongoing efforts to maintain public order.
