Benue Governor Alleges Foreign Fighters Behind Deadly Attacks

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has suggested that recent deadly attacks across the state are being carried out by foreign assailants, not Nigerians.

Speaking in an interview monitored by Radio Now’s Newsdesk, the governor said those responsible for the violence speak unfamiliar languages and do not resemble any of Nigeria’s known ethnic groups. He noted that Nigerians are generally able to distinguish between the country’s diverse communities, but these attackers bear no such identity.

The governor described the assaults, which have left dozens dead and many displaced, as highly organised and strategically executed. He said local intelligence indicates the perpetrators may be foreign nationals armed with military-grade weapons, including AK-47s.

Governor Alia also cited intelligence reports pointing to terrorist hideouts in parts of neighbouring Taraba and Nasarawa states, as well as across the border in Cameroon, raising concern over regional security coordination.
