Security agencies in Benue State say suspects linked to the deadly attack in Yelwata have been arrested. The Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, confirmed the arrests at a press briefing on Sunday but declined to name the suspects.
The arrests come days after President Bola Tinubu directed security chiefs to apprehend those behind the killings during his visit to Benue. Tinubu had criticised the lack of arrests and urged intelligence agencies to retool their networks for better results.

Commissioner Emenari credited the breakthrough to the support of Governor Hyacinth Alia, and confirmed that additional officers deployed by the Inspector General of Police have arrived and been posted to rural areas for improved surveillance and response.
The police also urged landlords and hotel operators to profile tenants and guests to help prevent the harbouring of suspected criminals. Last week’s attack on Yelwata in Guma Local Government Area left over 200 people dead and displaced thousands more.
