The Nigeria Fencing Federation has announced a 12-athlete squad for the 23rd African Fencing Championships, which will take place at Charterhouse Lagos from 25 to 29 June 2025.
This marks only the third time the continental showpiece will be hosted in Sub-Saharan Africa, following previous editions in Senegal and Mali.
Seventeen-year-old Inkosi Brou—Nigeria’s first international fencing medallist and grandson of the late NAFDAC boss, Prof. Dora Akunyili—leads the men’s squad. Brou, based in the U.S., won bronze earlier this year in Angola and is eyeing qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
He’s joined by UK-based Oluwafolayemi Akinyosoye and local standouts including the Idongesit twins, Okanlawon, Ige, and Aninyei.
The women’s side features Akinbamiro, Eribenne, Sara Idongesit, and Thomas.
Team Nigeria will compete in all three weapons: foil, epee, and sabre, across individual and team formats.
