Centre for Crisis Communication Warns Against Glamourising New Terror Group in North-West Nigeria

The Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC) has expressed concerns over the potential dangers of inadvertently promoting a newly identified terror group in north-western Nigeria. The group, known as the Lakurawa criminal syndicate, has reportedly been active in Kebbi and Sokoto States, presenting significant security risks in the region.

Following the CCC’s monthly briefing, Major General Chris Olukolade (rtd), the chairman of the Centre, urged stakeholders to concentrate on tackling the security threat posed by the Lakurawa syndicate. He warned against “glorifying” the group through excessive media coverage, which could bolster its profile.

Major General Olukolade emphasised that the situation demands a coordinated and strategic response to prevent the group’s influence from expanding across the country, with potentially grave consequences for public safety and humanitarian stability.
