Afrobeats star Davido is defending his decision to wear a customised jacket honouring Oyo State’s abducted schoolchildren during a performance at a FIFA World Cup event, saying Nigeria’s image shouldn’t come before the safety of missing children.
Speaking to BBC’s Focus on Africa, the singer said, “There’s no image to protect if little kids are being kidnapped.”
Davido wore a black leather jacket emblazoned with “BRING THEM HOME” and pins bearing the names of the 39 abducted pupils and seven teachers while performing at the World Cup 2026 Countdown Concert in Los Angeles.
The singer said he felt a duty to use his global platform to spotlight the crisis, noting that his own influence lies in music and performance.
