The Adamawa State Government has ordered the immediate relocation of NECO examination centres in several vulnerable schools to safer locations, citing growing security concerns in parts of the state. The directive, issued through the Ministry of Education and Human Development, follows the abduction of students and teachers in neighbouring Borno State on the 29th of June, several of whom are still in captivity.
Twelve schools are affected, including centres in Kwabapale, Kuburshosho, Kirchinga, Wagga, Shuwa, Guyaku, Dzangola, Garaha, Mukuvinyi, Gawkilba, and schools in Michika and Maki. Candidates from these locations have been redirected to alternative centres in Michika, Watu, Madagali, Gombi, Hildi, Gashala, and Kwabaktina, where they will now sit the ongoing Senior Secondary Certificate Examination.
The state’s Permanent Secretary for Education, Hajiya Aisha Mohammed Umar, said the decision was taken to guarantee the safety of candidates, teachers and examination officials, and will remain in force until the security situation improves. The Ministry has appealed to school administrators, community leaders and parents to cooperate fully with the new arrangements.
