Ted Turner, the founder of CNN and pioneer of 24-hour television news, has died at the age of 87.
The network announced his death on Wednesday, saying the businessman and philanthropist had been living with Lewy body dementia. Turner launched Cable News Network in 1980, transforming global broadcasting with continuous live news coverage.
Under his leadership, CNN gained worldwide prominence through coverage of major international events, including the Gulf War, the collapse of the Soviet Union and the Tiananmen Square protests in China. His media empire later expanded to include TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network and Turner Classic Movies.
