A former abductee of the 2022 Abuja–Kaduna train attack has recounted a chance encounter with one of his captors at a mosque in Kaduna State.
The Daily Trust reports that Comrade M. B. Muhammad, who was among passengers seized during the March 28 attack, said he recognised the individual, named simply as Abubakar, after evening prayers at Shema Mosque near Bakin Ruwa Junction in Rigasa, Igabi Local Government Area.

The former militant reportedly told Muhammad he had renounced terrorism and now works as a commercial motorcyclist. During their conversation, Abubakar claimed several of his former associates had been killed, though others remained active.
In a reflective social media post, Muhammad said he forgave the man and offered him alms, citing his poor condition. The unexpected meeting has sparked wider public reflection on forgiveness, rehabilitation and the complexities surrounding repentant militants in Nigeria’s north-west.
