Falcons intensify preparations to defend WAFCON title

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have stepped up preparations for their WAFCON title defence, with 19 of 25 invited players now in camp in Casablanca ahead of their Group C opener against Malawi on July 28 in Rabat.

Head coach Justine Madugu oversaw a Sunday training session involving 15 players at the La Noria Club, as Sweden-based duo Halimatu Ayinde and Joy Omewa arrived to boost the squad, while Mexico-based defender Osinachi Ohale and forward Chinwendu Ihezuo were en route to Morocco.

Players already in camp include captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, and forwards Asisat Oshoala and Francisca Ordega. Six players remain outstanding, including Michelle Alozie, Deborah Abiodun and Uchenna Kanu.

The nine-time African champions, chasing a record-extending 11th title, will also face Zambia and Egypt in the group stage of the newly expanded 16-team tournament, running from July 25 to August 16 across Morocco.
