Flying Eagles Set Sights on World Cup Qualification Ahead of U-20 AFCON

Flying Eagles head coach Aliyu Zubairu says Nigeria’s focus at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt is to secure a World Cup berth.

To do so, the team must finish among the top four, earning qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile later this year.

Following a tournament reshuffle after Côte d’Ivoire’s withdrawal as hosts, Nigeria now faces Tunisia, Kenya, and Morocco in Group B, a draw some have dubbed the “group of death.”

Despite the challenge, Zubairu believes his side has made notable strides and is prepared for the task ahead.

The competition runs from April 27 to May 18, with the top four nations advancing to the global tournament scheduled in Chile from 27 September to 19 October.

Coach Zubairu previously managed Gombe United in the Nigerian top flight.
