Germany’s U21 Star Atubolu Breaks Neuer Record Amid Nigeria Interest

Germany’s U21 goalkeeper Noah Atubolu has broken Manuel Neuer’s long-standing appearance record, emerging as a key figure at the ongoing UEFA U21 Championship.

The 23-year-old, who plays for SC Freiburg and is eligible to represent Nigeria, earned his 21st cap in Germany’s dramatic 3-2 semi-final win over the Netherlands—surpassing Neuer’s U21 tally of 20.

Atubolu made his U21 debut in 2022 and has previously featured for Germany at U17, U19 and U20 levels.

He remains on the radar of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, but has indicated that his immediate international future lies with Germany.

National team coach Julian Nagelsmann is expected to observe him closely in Saturday’s final against England.

Atubolu kept 10 clean sheets in 26 Bundesliga appearances last season, helping Freiburg secure a Europa League spot.

Germany’s goalkeeping coach Andreas Kronenberg has also worked closely with him at club level.
