The Ghana Football Association has appointed Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the Black Stars, tasking him with leading the national team to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The appointment was confirmed on Monday, following the dismissal of Otto Addo after a series of poor results that disrupted Ghana’s preparations for the tournament scheduled to begin on June 11 in Canada, Mexico and the United States.
Carlos Queiroz, a former manager of Real Madrid and assistant coach at Manchester United, brings extensive international experience to the role. The Portuguese tactician has managed several national teams, including the Portugal national football team and the Iran national football team, and is widely known for his disciplined and structured approach to the game.
Ghana heads into the tournament in difficult form, having lost four consecutive matches, including defeats to Austria and Germany. The Black Stars face a challenging group featuring the England national football team, Croatia national football team, and Panama national football team, increasing the urgency for stability and tactical direction within the squad.

Carlos Queiroz is expected to assume duties immediately, with limited time to prepare the team ahead of their opening match against Panama on June 17 in Toronto. His appointment is seen as a strategic move by the Ghana Football Association to restore confidence and structure, with hopes that his experience will guide the Black Stars through a demanding World Cup campaign.
