Pa Onakoya, father of Nigerian chess player Tunde Onakoya, says he initially wasn’t in support of his son’s interest in chess.
In an interview with City Edge TV, Mr. Onakoya said he would disrupt his son’s chess games when he was a child, so he could focus on his academic education.
The proud father disclosed this when he joined his wife and many others at Lagos airport on Wednesday, to give the Guinness World Record-breaker a heroic welcome.

Tunde Onakoya recently chased the Guinness World Record for the longest-ever chess marathon which is currently held by Norwegian players, Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad, who played for 56-hour, 9-minute in 2018.
Tunde Onakoya clocked a time of 60 hours at Times Square in New York, United States, and is awaiting the Guinness World Record’s ratification before he can officially join the exclusive club of record breakers.
